About Us

Eryri National Park Authority (ENPA) protects the natural beauty, wildlife, and cultural heritage of Eryri National Park. Covering 823 square miles, the park is home to the highest mountain in Wales, the largest natural lake in Wales, and over 26,000 people.

We are now looking for a Planning Officer / Principal Planning Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 37 hours per week.

Please note, this is one position; the job title will be determined based on experience.

The Role

As a Planning Officer / Principal Planning Officer, you’ll manage and assess development across the National Park, ensuring planning decisions protect and enhance this unique landscape.

Handling a diverse caseload of planning applications, you’ll provide expert advice to applicants and stakeholders and contribute to shaping sustainable development within one of the UK’s most treasured natural environments.

You’ll guide applicants through the planning process, from pre-application advice and site visits to preparing reports, drafting recommendations, and presenting at committee meetings.

Additionally, you will:

- Assist with appeals, enforcement cases, and Local Development Plan activities
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of planning policies and processes

If appointed at the Principal Planning Officer level, you will also lead on more complex and strategic applications, manage the work of junior team members, and deputise for the Head of Development Management and Compliance when required.

You’ll take a proactive role in mentoring colleagues, overseeing report preparation, and ensuring the effective delivery of major projects and appeals, while continuing to uphold the highest professional and customer service standards across the department.

About You

To join us as a Planning Officer, you will need:

- The ability to communicate effectively in both Welsh and English
- Experience of planning and/or development management
- Experience preparing reports and statements
- The ability to read and understand building plans
- To be educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline
- At least Student membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (support will be given to obtain RTPI membership)
- A full, valid driving licence and access to a car

To join us as a Principal Planning Officer, you will also need to be a Chartered Town and Country Planner with full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

We are open to candidates that have experience in planning but would like to progress to Senior Planner.
