Equal Opportunities

At Transport for Wales we value diversity. It makes us stronger, helps us understand our customers better, make better decisions and be more innovative.  Everyone’s different and has their own perspective so we’re building a diverse team that mirrors the communities we serve. Through this we’re determined to be one of Wales' leading inclusive employers.  We’re creating an inclusive transport network that everyone in Wales can be proud of.

Who we are

At Transport for Wales, we’re on a mission to transform transport in Wales and make it fit for the future, whether that’s rail, bus, walking or cycling. We want to inspire a nation to change the way it travels, so that we all travel more sustainably and help to combat the climate emergency we’re all facing.

We’re an open and inclusive place to work, where everyone is welcome and our people are supported to reach their full potential. We want to create an environment where our people can grow and succeed. This is key to enabling us to deliver on the promises we’ve made to the people of Wales to build a sustainable transport network that meets their needs.

Role responsibilities

The purpose of the Senior Project Manager (Client Infrastructure and Depots) role is to develop and deliver complex, commercially focused, rolling stock related change projects to improve transport services, operational efficiency and profitability in line with Welsh Government (WG) transport policy and strategy.  This development and delivery will be a combination of projects that the Rolling Stock Programme and Strategy team are directly involved in the delivery of, as well as acting in more of a sponsorship role for rolling stock related projects that are developed and delivered by the TfW Infrastructure team.

  • Support the Senior Strategy Manager Rolling Stock and their team through the development of any infrastructure intervention requirements associated with any plans for new/modified rolling stock (e.g. depots, outstations, stations etc) with a view to take strategy into implementation
  • Be accountable for the forward development of core depot/outstations/stations design components by working with the TfW supply chain to provide standardisation across TfW depot design and delivery.
  • Work with the TfW supply chain by implementing robust project management to deliver wider depot needs in order meet Welsh Government decarbonisation plans.
  • Working with TfW colleagues by ensuring that downstream functionality (in line with depot/fleet/operations Responsible Accountable Consult Inform (RACI) responsibilities) are in place and have been fully considered to enable all planning and delivery activities.
  • Lead complex commercially focused transport related projects through the application of robust project lifecycle methodologies (such as APM or PRINCE 2), implementation of project plans and efficient resource management to ensure attainment of key milestones and completion of projects to time, cost and quality.

Who we’re looking for

  • Relevant degree such as Business, Transportation, Planning, Engineering (or similar) or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in support of a robust safety culture.
  • Relevant project management qualification such a APM Practitioner / Prince 2 or willingness to attain.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.
